Common Electrical Faults We Fix

• RCD Tripping/MCBs and nuisance trips

• Burning smell, warm switches, or buzzing fittings

• Faulty ovens, hobs and extractors (electrical side)

• Water-damaged electrics (bathroom/kitchen leaks)

If you’re noticing scorch marks, crackling, or a persistent burning smell, switch off the circuit at the consumer unit and contact us immediately.

Our Fall Finding Process

1. Listen & make safe – Understand the symptoms and isolate any dangerous circuits.

2. Test – Use calibrated test instruments to trace the fault (insulation resistance, RCD ramp, loop impedance, continuity, etc.).

3. Diagnose – Identify the root cause, not just the symptom.

4. Fix – Replace/repair faulty components or wiring.

5. Verify – Re-test and provide records of the work completed.

6. Advise – Recommendations to prevent repeat faults or plan future upgrades.

Electrical Fault Finding and Repairs

Please reach us at dan@franshamelectrical.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Try unplugging appliances on the affected circuit and reset the RCD. If it holds, plug items back in one by one to find the culprit. If it won’t reset or trips immediately, keep the circuit off and contact us.

There’s a standard diagnostic fee that covers travel and the first hour on site. We’ll confirm this before booking. If you approve the repair, we aim to complete it during the same visit when parts are available.

Often we can repair localised faults on older installations. If we find widespread issues, we’ll explain options—from targeted upgrades to partial or full rewires—with clear costs.

Yes. You’ll receive a summary of findings and any relevant electrical certification for the work carried out.
